I use my Cybertool 34 every day! February 10, 2010 Gregory L. Meece (Austin, TX) I won't repeat a lot of the helpful info provided by other reviewers here (thanks E. Kim!), other than to echo - choose your model wisely. Of the models available, only the 34 and the Lite (should be "Light") are in the Goldilocks middle; the 29 is too little, and the 41 is too much! Actually, the 34 and Lite Cybertools are identical except the Lite model adds an LED flashlight and a magnifying glass. You need to decide whether those two items are worth the $30 retail premium.
Even though these knives have really gone up in price since I got my last one (I had to replace a lost one about 7 years ago), I wouldn't even think twice about getting a replacement again if I needed to. I literally use mine EVERY day - no hyperbole here!
Pluses:
The jewel of this knife is the "bit wrench" which is the screwdriver head that holds any one of the 4x2 heads (4 bits, each with two sides). If you do mechanical work on computers at all, this is almost a must-have. The tweezers are in constant demand, the scissors are handy, as are the two knive blades (naturally). I've used the bottle opener, can opener, and even corkscrew whenever the regular kitchen equivalents aren't available. Even the precision screwdriver has proven its worth in fixing glasses, etc. I even used the ballpoint pen a fair amount until I forced it too hard and broke it (my fault - I was using it to leverage something).
Minuses:
The pliers are less than stellar - I only use them if I have no other choice. Yes, they've come in handy a few times, but not as much as I'd like (they are too small to get your hands around for leverage). I've used the hook tool like twice, and the awl about the same. While the toothpick is useful in its own way, I would only use it as such if I had some good disinfectant available to rinse it in - the knife case can get pretty nasty.
There are few products I've owned that I am this hands-down enthusastic about. If you ever find yourself having to tinker, repair, etc. and don't have a toolbox handy, this is what you NEED to get!
Great Knife for engineers January 21, 2010 Peachesnsylvie (Vacaville, CA United States) I purchased this knife for my son who is a computer engineering major in college. This was his best Christmas present under the tree. He played with it all day long. He has already been able to utilize it at his school and when he has worked on other people's computers. He loves the durability and how small it is. Instead of carrying around his tool box he just slips this into his pocket and he is good to go. All the tools on this are very well made from the scissors to the tiny little pen which comes in very handy (as most guys do not have purses to carry a pen with them all the time)when he needs to write down a part number. The vendor was fast to respond and shipping was on time.
An extremely well made knife with every tool you could need November 19, 2009 Jon K. (Baltimore, MD) After losing my original, smaller Swiss Army knife to an overzealous event security guard, I was forced to use an off-brand replacement I had sitting in a drawer. After months of trying to use scissors that wouldn't cut, blades that felt cheap, and a finish that picked up deep, ugly scratches on a daily basis, I decided it was time to get another Swiss Army.
I chose the CyberTool 34 vs the other CyberTools because scissors were a requirement, but I didn't need the extra weight of a wood saw or metal file.
On pulling it out of the box, the first thing I noticed was just how *solid* it feels. All the tools feel sturdy and open with a satisfying click. The finish is attractive (I got the Onyx), and the whole thing radiates quality.
It's a fairly big knife (about an inch thick), but it's still small enough that I tend to carry it everywhere, and it fits comfortably in most pants pockets. It's a little too big to use as a key chain, however.
The collection of tools covers virtually every situation I come across, and I haven't really had to open a tool box for a small job ever since I got this knife. The selection of screwdriver bits is adequate for all of my computer jobs, and for most other screws I've come across, the pliers are good and heavy, and the eyeglass screwdriver and pen both see use surprisingly often. Rarely does a day go by that I don't find *some* use for this thing. It's easy to drop some of the screwdriver bits if you aren't careful, but that's a very minor problem.
The finish does pick up some scratches, but they're faint, and in no way detract from the beauty of this knife. The semi-transparent finish is classy and modern.
All in all, this is the best knife I've ever owned, and assuming I don't lose this one, I expect it will be so for many years to come.
It's a jewel with many uses! April 19, 2009 Rafael G. Ourique (brazil) Like any Victorinox product, it's a magic tool! Precise, durable and very usefull. I love it!
Great tool, but make sure you pick the "right" CyberTool February 1, 2009 E. Kim 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
Victorinox currently makes the CyberTool 29, CyberTool 34, CyberTool 41, and CyberTool Lite. The SwissChamp XLT and XAVT are also officially part of the "CyberTool" line from Victorinox.
The CyberTool 29 is by far the thinnest and lightest of the group, which makes it actually possible to pocket carry this tool. The four double-sided bits is what distinguishes the CyberTool models from the regular Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. (Note that the SwissChamp XAVT actually contains eight double-sided bits.) There are also additional bits which can be purchased from third party sources, such as SwissBianco.
If you need the scissors and pliers, which is quite possible when working with computers, then the CyberTool 34 will be the thinnest model to have those tools with the bits and driver. I found the CyberTool 34 still far too heavy for pocket carry.
The CyberTool 41 is the same as the CyberTool 34 with the addition of a woodsaw and metal file. This tool is for most people too heavy for pocket carry, and usually carried in a belt pouch or bag.
One of the least mentioned and discussed CyberTools is the "Lite" version which has a magnifying glass and small flashlight. Although not as popular in sales, this is a terrific version which allows you to use the flashlight while working inside a computer case and the magnifying glass could be useful for inspecting bent pins.
Whichever CyberTool you choose, you will want to be careful in not losing the bits, as the replacements for those are actually fairly expensive.
