Product Description In the small village of Ibach, Switzerland, the original Swiss Army knife was created in 1897 by Karl Elsener. The Swiss Army knife has the cross and shield emblem. This emblem symbolizes the legend of Victorinox and Swiss Army Band. The Swiss Army knife with it's multi-tool was legally registered on June 12, 1897. Over 34,000 of these pocket tools with the distinctive Swiss cross leave the factory in central Switzerland each day. Ninety per cent are for export to over 100 different countries and serve as ambassadors for Switzerland. The Swiss Army knife can be found orbiting the world with the astronauts, going on expeditions with the exploreres, trekking through the rain forests and even in the New York Museum of Modern Art. The largest model is the "SwissChamp" with 33 features. Over 450 steps are required in its manufacture. You have a large selection of swiss army knives to choose from. Each knife has specific multi tool to make your life a little bit easier, especially in those difficult moments. Many of the knives come with a light or a pen.

Had one for years - bought one for my daughter July 9, 2010 Pat Knight We decided our daughter was finally old (and sensible) enough for her own pocket knife. As a long time user, it had to be Victorinox. There are huge numbers of Swiss Army Knife variants, so I went to the Victorinox web site and used their tool for choosing a knife. After specifying the blades I thought my daughter would most appreciate, the site recommended the Mountaineer knife.
It turns out this is the same knife I've had for 15 years. Who'd have thought our disparate interests would be best met by the same knife, but so it goes. Anyway, I can testify to the knife's build quality - everything still works and nothing's fallen off or broken after 15 years sharing a pocket with my keys. The blades are still sharp and shiny. They open and close firmly - nothing's loosened.
If you want a pocket knife, get a Victorinox, but use the tool to choose the best knife for your needs.

Victronix Swiss Army knives.
not a safety locking blade August 21, 2009 philostratos 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's a useful knife, of course. The only reason I am writing this review is to warn people that it does not have a "safety locking" blade, as advertised. The product description states: "Two blades (one safety locking)." The large blade snaps open sharply and it is difficult to accidentally close, but this is no different than other SAKs I've owned. I expected that closing the large blade would require pressing a button or some similar operation independent of moving the blade itself. There are other SAKs, such as the Nomad, which have a genuinely locking blade.

This is my second one. Good product, good quality. Has most of the tools you need for travel without carrying a tool box.
Great gift for an outdoorsy guy January 9, 2009 Jennifer (Buckinghamshire, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a good everyday pocket knife. It has enough gadgets to get you out of any pinch, but it is not too heavy or bulky. And Victorinox is the brand of Swiss army knives they sell in Switzerland, so it is the brand I trust.
